Letter from the editor
KentNews launched in 2019, providing news about Kent, written by the people of Kent. We are the first social-based news platform, where anyone can become a journalist and write an article for publication. In the same way that computer networks can achieve more when connected together, we can cover all of Kent by utilising guest writers located across the county.
Our writers work tirelessly to create articles to inform and entertain. We are not afraid to allow opinion and creative risk in order to cover all aspects of Kent life and spark debate at ground level. We allow sarcasm, opinion, criticism, satire, wit, irony and cynicism to give our reporting a distinct edge. By allowing guest writers, we can be more responsive and reactive to news and gossip across the county, than traditional news reporting agencies.
We are staffed by a small group of editors who will verify all work submitted before making it live on the KentNews.Online website. These are people who live in Kent and care about it. We maintain high editorial standards and whilst free speech is allowed, we do ensure that articles are accurate and do not allow racist, sexist, defamatory or incorrect information to be published.
Our guest writers enable us to reach more communities than ever, attracting a large number of page impressions a month and rising. We support all writers, from those planning a future in journalism and media, to those who care about issues in their local communities or for those who just take pleasure from writing and sharing stories. KentNews.Online provides a platform for everyone to produce news which affects those who live in Kent.
As well as our news, sport and travel sections, our lighter features cover entertainment, TV, business and local events. We support local businesses with articles, highlighting special offers and more. Our lifestyle section covers technology & games, food, music and more so there is always something for everyone.
We cover all corners of Kent (including Medway) from Maidstone, Canterbury, Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells, Chatham, Gillingham, Dartford, Dover, Folkestone, Margate, Isle of Sheppey, Rochester, Sevenoaks, Faversham and more.
At KentNews.Online, we recognise that protecting the rights of the individual can, in some circumstances, conflict with the public’s right to be informed. We do make difficult judgements, sometimes quickly, which are impossible to get right all of the time. We expect our staff to use their best endeavours to verify the stories being put forward for publication. Story provenance is ultimately the responsibility of the Editor. When using unnamed sources, the company relies on the integrity, experience and professionalism of its staff.
We love working with the people of Kent. Please contact us if you are interested in being a writer or have any questions. We look forward to hearing from you and hope you enjoy the site.
