An Ocado delivery vehicle was seen on fire during Tuesday evenings rush hour at around 5pm.
The incident happened on the M2 near J4 (Gillingham) on the coastbound side near to the A249. It is thought the van was an electric vehicle due to the intensity and colour of the flames.
It is thought that the driver manged to exit the vehicle before the flames took hold. The Kent Fire and Rescue Service were soon on the scene to deal with the fire, although it caused extensive delays to those on their way home with up to 4 miles of traffic queues. The road did not re-open until 11pm.
A spokesperson for Ocado said “We’re aware of a fire involving one of our vans today and are relieved that no one was injured. We’re working with the relevant authorities to investigate the cause.”
