The Wizard Of Oz, Starring, The Vivienne Is Coming To Canterbury

The Wizard of Oz, starring RuPaul’s Drag Race UK winner The Vivienne, will be coming to Canterbury’s Marlowe Theatre for a six-night performance.

Following the show’s celebrated success at the London Palladium and extended festive performance in the Liverpool Empire in 2023, The Wizard of Oz has commenced a tour of the show across the UK and Ireland.

The show is scheduled in several cities, including Edinburgh, Dublin, and Cardiff.

Liverpudlian drag artist The Vivienne, who rose to fame by winning the first series of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK in 2019, will don her broomstick in her portrayal of the Wicked Witch of the West.

The Vivienne has also made several television appearances, including Dancing on Ice, Celebrity Hunted and the Great British Sewing Bee Christmas special.

The Vivienne told Liverpool Echo: “I’ve always been obsessed with evil villains in movies and on stage, I’ve just been drawn to them, so playing one is one of my biggest dreams ever.”

“The audience should expect everything and more, stunning music, jaw-dropping costumes, phenomenal dance routines and an iconic story that will send your emotions up the wall,” she added.

Based on the iconic children’s story by L Frank Baum, The Wizard of Oz follows the story of a young girl named Dorothy, from Kansas, who gets caught up in a tornado and lands in the magical land of Oz.

Dorothy and her dog, Toto, set out on a quest to find the Wizard who holds the power to bring her home.

On the journey, Dorothy must escape the clutches of the Wicked Witch of the West with the aid of the Scarecrow, Tin-Man and Cowardly Lion.

Actor Gary Wilmot (The Wizard), JLS band member Aston Merrygold (The Tin Man) and theatre actor Nic Greenshields (The Cowardly Lion) will star alongside The Vivienne.

The touring show will include several numbers from the 1939 film adaptation and a selection of original songs by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.

The Wizard of Oz will be at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury from Tuesday, February 6th to Sunday, February 11th.
