Kent Heads To The Polls As Election Day Dawns

Polling stations across the UK have opened for the 2024 general election. Polls will be open from 07:00 until 22:00 BST for eligible people will be able to cast their votes

There are 18 seats being contested in Kent, with a redrawing of boundaries meaning there are some new constituency names for 2024.

In Kent these are Weald of Kent, East Thanet, plus Herne Bay and Sandwich.

Anyone intending to vote in person will need to take an approved form of photo ID to the polling station. The Conservative Party are expected to do well in the area, as the South-East is traditioanlly blue. But there could be some surprises, especially as the subject of immigration and Channel crossings is a hot topic for people living in the county.

There could be a lot of votes for independants or smaller parties, as voters choose to avoid casting their votes for Conservatives or Labour.

The first results expected in the early hours of Friday morning.
