According to the Baby Bank Alliance, 65% of baby banks say they are turning families away because they don’t have enough items or funding . To support this growing issue, Barratt David Wilson Kent recently volunteered their time and donated £1,500 to Surrey-based charity, Stripey Stork.
Stripey Stork is a baby bank charity that collects and redistributes baby and children’s items to families in Surrey and Croydon who are experiencing hardship. The charity provides vital support to vulnerable families, ensuring they have the essentials they need and operates through a referral system rather than taking direct requests from families. They provide a range of support and services including essential equipment and clothing, toiletries and care packs, development & wellbeing items and run seasonal campaigns such as ‘Santa Stork’ (holiday gifts) and ‘A Gift for Mum’ (Mother’s Day pamper packs).
The £1,500 donation was made through Barratt Redrow’s Community Fund programme, which aims to support local charities and groups wherever Barratt Redrow operates across the UK. The donation will go towards helping the charity operate and continue to provide support and services for families who need it.
The Barratt David Wilson Kent team volunteered by helping thoroughly clean, safety-check and assemble clothing, equipment and toys to ensure they meet safety regulations before distribution.
Nicola Dawes DL, Chief Executive at Stripey Stork commented: “There are thousands of families in our communities struggling to provide for their children. We are grateful to Barratt David Wilson Kent for their donation and to the whole team for volunteering their time to help organise our donations. Working alongside local referral partners including health visitors, social workers, schools, food banks and domestic abuse services, it is only through the support of donors and volunteers that we can continue reaching families who need us most.”
Natalie Perry, Sales & Marketing Director at Barratt David Wilson Kent, added: “Knowing the struggle families go through in our communities is truly heartbreaking. At Barratt David Wilson Kent, we believe it is crucial to support our local communities. It is a real pleasure that our donation will help provide the vital services that create a supportive environment for families in need. Knowing that our volunteering can make a meaningful difference to the community is especially rewarding for our team and we hope to continue working with charities like Stripey Stork in the future.”
