Pupils from Dymchurch Primary School brought generations together through poetry during a visit to The Old Rectory Care Home, sharing their words with residents and strengthening connections within the village.
The children read their poems aloud, giving residents an opportunity to hear their ideas and enjoy spending time with some of their youngest neighbours.
Cheryl Waters, Manager at The Old Rectory Care Home said: “For the Old Rectory, the visit was about more than a poetry reading. It created time for children and older people to listen to one another, share an experience and build connections across generations. We very much look forward to welcoming them back.”
Welcoming local pupils also helps maintain the home’s close relationship with the wider Dymchurch community, bringing village life through its doors and giving residents opportunities to meet people of different ages.
Poetry provided a simple starting point for that connection. With the children sharing their words and residents listening, the visit showed how an everyday activity can bring people together.
The Old Rectory offers residential, dementia and respite care in Dymchurch, with an emphasis on personalised support, dignity and helping residents feel at home. Community visits form part of creating a welcoming environment where relationships and shared experiences matter.
