Local community rallies together to raise £10,000 for the Royal Engineers Association – The Sapper Charity Children’s Fund
More than 100 golfers, local businesses and members of the military community came together on Armed Forces Day to raise an incredible £10,000 for the Royal Engineers Association – The Sapper Charity’s Children’s Fund.
The charity was honoured to be selected as the nominated charity for this year’s Armed Forces Day Golf Day, with funds dedicated to supporting the children of serving and veteran Royal Engineers during times of crisis, hardship and tragedy.
One of the most poignant moments of the day came when Captain James Newgent, whose family has personally benefited from the Children’s Fund, shared his story with those attending. His heartfelt account highlighted the real difference the charity makes to Royal Engineer families when they need support the most.
More than 100 golfers took to the course before enjoying an evening dinner, raffle and auction. The event was made possible thanks to the generosity of local businesses, many of whom donated fantastic prizes to support the fundraising efforts.
The Sapper Charity also contributed a range of unique military-themed experiences, including:
• A tandem skydive with the Royal Engineers.
• A family behind-the-scenes tour of the local Royal Engineers Museum.
• An exclusive day with the Royal Engineers Motorsport Team at Brands Hatch.
Adding to the occasion, a team of four serving and veteran Royal Engineers joined the competition on the course, strengthening the link between the local community and the Corps they were supporting.
The celebrations continued into the evening with dinner, the fundraising auction and, by fortunate timing, England’s World Cup match playing on the big screen, creating a fantastic atmosphere for everyone involved.
