Ashford Borough Council have released new designs for Ashford’s former Odeon cinema after a proposed restoration.
The cinema was built in 1936 but has been empty since 2018, last being used by Mecca Bingo. Now, the council says plans to bring it back to life are one step closer.
Plans include a new performance space, a cafe/bar with an “informal workspace”, and a gallery. The building’s ballroom will also be restored and would be available for hire.
The public can view the plans at a consultation event on 18th September, between 10:00am and 4:00pm, at County Square shopping centre.
The authority said the new designs were developed based on feedback from the community and “local cultural partners”.
A spokesperson for the council said: “The project responds to the community’s strong call for more arts, cultural and performance space in Ashford town centre.”
A planning application will be submitted after the public consultation event.
