A caregiver from Kent has been recognised with a major regional honour after consistently demonstrating compassion, calm leadership and extraordinary dedication to her clients and team.
Eliz Hussein, from North Kent in-home care provider Visiting Angels, has been named Caregiver of the Year for the South East at their national conference, celebrating the exceptional care she delivers day in, day out and the difference she makes to the people she supports.
Eliz joined Visiting Angels earlier this year and has quickly become a vital part of the North Kent care team. She was nominated for her instinctive, hands-on support during challenging situations, including a recent incident where a client was in medical distress and anxious about hospital care.
“She truly embodies everything we stand for at Visiting Angels,” said Darryl Lahner, Managing Director of Visiting Angels in North Kent. “Just recently she had a client experiencing significant medical distress and helped reassure his daughter during a very difficult moment. Not only did she calm the situation, but she also drove them to the hospital, waited with them until he was admitted and ensured his daughter arrived home safely.”
In addition to being committed in emergencies, Eliz also steps in to protect her clients when needed. Not long ago when a vulnerable client lost power overnight, Eliz immediately advocated for her, ensured an electrician was on the way, prepared a warm meal and stayed with her until her family arrived.
“In such a short time, I can’t say enough about how much Eliz deserves this award. She is the definition of a caring heart, and we are so fortunate to have her.” Darryl added.
Visiting Angels’ ‘carer-centric’ approach sets it apart from other companies in the in-home care sector. Carers working for Visiting Angels feel valued and respected for their commitment to the industry. By offering financial rewards and avenues for career development, Visiting Angels are committed to addressing industry challenges that frequently leave caregivers feeling undervalued and underappreciated.
When talking about what it meant to win Eliz explained, “Everyone in my team – other carers, my managers – really care about each other and care about our clients. The support has just been overwhelming. I’m very proud to say that the award was a big milestone for me. I was so happy – it felt like a win not just for me, but for us as a team. I’m very happy to be part of my team and part of Visiting Angels in general”.
