Work is well underway at David Wilson Homes’ Roman Walk development on Tothill Street in Minster, Thanet. Roman Walk will offer a 30/70 split of 133 private and social affordable homes. Set to launch from a new sales suite and two show homes later in the year, over 40% of the foundations have now been laid onsite with full building work commencing over the next few months.
Named ‘Roman Walk’ in a nod to the Roman road running adjacent to the development, David Wilson Kent is further assisting Thanet District Council in helping to meet housebuilding targets in the area, and to meet the Government’s wider goal of delivering 1.5 million homes in five years. In 2023, the council set out a revised housing target to buy or build at least 400 new affordable homes by 2027 with 10% of that target being achieved at Roman Walk alone.
The 133 homes at Roman Walk will offer a collection of one to five-bedroom homes, available with a mixture of tenures. Homes will appeal to a range of households both within Minster and beyond, including first time buyers, downsizers and growing families.
Roman Walk has also passed the ‘Building for Healthy Life’ accreditation, a superior and voluntary Design Code created to create, encourage and enhance new and growing neighbourhoods. This includes 12 strict criteria to determine well-designed street spaces, public transport and facilities and services to offer a higher quality of life to residents and ensure that new residential developments offer a better long-term investment for the community.
Located a stone’s throw away from Kent’s east coast, Minster is well served by public transport and easy road use. The local railway station is within walking distance of Roman Walk, offering connections to London Charing Cross within two hours, Ashford International in under 40 minutes and Ramsgate in eight minutes. For road use, the development leads to the A229, allowing easy access to M2 and A2. Minster is also sandwiched between Monkton Nature Reserve which is a four-minute drive away, as well as the Viking Coastal Trail just an eight-minute walk.
Natalie Perry, Sales and Marketing Director for David Wilson Kent, comments: “We are committed to building high quality housing for a mix of tenures in Kent and are particularly proud to expand our relationship with Thanet District Council once again in assisting with their housebuilding targets. We have a robust relationship with the council, working together to provide Discount Market Sale (DMS) and homes on the Kickstart Scheme, offering affordable avenues for local buyers, at our Spitfire Green development in Ramsgate.
“Roman Walk has also been designed with wellbeing and nature in mind, acquiring the highest level of ‘Building For a Healthy Life’ accreditation, offering longevity as we build new communities. Whenever we build in new areas, we are dedicated to not only supplying houses, but also giving back to the local community through Section 106 commitments to help with education, highway works and local amenities. Due to the site’s proximity to Kent’s coastal region which has excellent amenities, transport links and a frothy buyers’ market, we expect high interest both off and on-plan over the next few months during our official launch.”
