People Warned About High Temperatures As Heatwave Continues

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued an amber heat-health alert for all regions in England – the first time since September 2023 – which will remain in place until Monday. Temperatures are expected to reach above 30C for a second day running, as the early summer heatwave is set to continue into next week.

Hot and dry conditions are expected to persist across the region, with temperatures predicted to go as high as 32C.

Friday is not forecast to be as warm as Thursday – which broke the record for hottest day of the year so far – while temperatures could top out at 34C on Saturday.

There are warnings of “significant impacts” across health and social care services, including a rise in deaths, particularly among those aged 65 and over or people with health conditions.

By Friday afternoon, many regions are expected to meet the criteria for a heatwave – which means a temperature threshold is sustained for three consecutive days – according to the Met Office.

Popular seaside resorts around the Kent coast are expected to be very busy over the weekend. People are being warned not to sit in direct sun for a prolonged period of time and to ensure that they keep themselves hydrated, as heat exhaustion can creep up on you without you knowing about it.

There is also advice not to take dogs for walks between 10am – 6pm and to check the temperature of roads and pavements before you take them out.
