Southern Water Admit Supply Problems In Kent

Southern Water has apologised for the “distress and inconvenience” caused after some residents in Broadstairs, Margate and Ramsgate have experienced water supply issues since Saturday night.

The company said it was “drawing up a plan” for bottled water stations to be made available for customers and has started to deliver bottled water to people on its priority services register.

In December, thousands of customers in Kent and Sussex faced persistent water outages after pipes burst due to snow and ice thawing rapidly overnight.

Southern Water said it was closely monitoring the situation. In an online update, it said “Our teams have worked through the night to repair our water booster station in Broadstairs, Kent, following disruption to water supplies in the area. The network is complex and it will take time to get water flowing throughout and for water to fully return this morning.”

Southern Water has been at the centre of a number of issues with their services over the last few years. Not only has there been a significant number of shortages but there has been multiple complaints about sewage being dischsrged into the seas around the Kent coast.

South Thanet MP Craig McKinlay said he had been in contact with a Southern Water director regarding the outages.

He has said “I’m receiving reports of loss of water supply in Broadstairs this evening. I have been in contact with one of the directors of Southern Water but have, as yet, received no update. I’d be grateful if residents could let me know when normal supply returns.”
