Weekend Dispersal Order Put In Place In Chatham

A dispersal order has been put in place this weekend to deter anti-social behaviour in Chatham.

The order will come into effect at 6pm on Friday 23rd January and will remain in place until 6pm on Sunday 25th January 2026.

It covers the Dockside area, from Maritime Way, Western Avenue, Leviathan Way and to the water’s edge.

This has been implemented due to ongoing concerns relating to issues caused by groups of young people congregating in the area. It gives officers additional powers to move on anyone causing a nuisance and, if necessary, arrest those who subsequently return to the area.

Cars or motorbikes used in an antisocial or dangerous manner will be seized.

Inspector Allen Searle from the Medway Community Safety Unit said ‘Officers will be patrolling the Dockside area in response to concerns raised by local businesses and residents. We are committed to ensuring residents and visitors feel safe when out and about and we will not tolerate intimidating or illegal behaviour.‘
