The Kingsferry bridge linking the Isle of Sheppey was closed last night due to a major gas leak.
Fire crews and police were called to the Bridge at around 9.50pm on Wednesday evening (9th July) after a gas main ruptured.
Trains were unable to run for several hours due to the investigation work but started again at around 11.40pm.
Fire crews had left the scene by 6am and handed over the site to gas company SGN.
SGN confirmed the road had to be closed overnight while emergency repairs were carried out.
The bridge remains closed on Thursday morning.
Kent Highways is assisting SGN to help manage traffic.
A spokesman said “Road closed due to a major gas leak. KCC are in attendance working alongside KFRS and the utility company to implement suitable traffic management plans.”
