The brand new Shipwreck Adventure Golf Course in Sheerness has been a huge success as figures show thousands have visited the attraction.
The £430,000 attraction in Beachfields, Sheerness, has proved to be very popular with visitors since opening just eight weeks ago.
Swale council has said that more than 4,900 people visited the heritage-themed 18-hole course after it launched at the end of July. The authority says this has “exceeded” its expectations.
The brand-new adventure golf course features 18 exciting and creatively designed holes, each one themed around the unique wonders that make the Isle of Sheppey such a special place to visit. From local legends and natural beauty, to iconic landmarks and island wildlife, every hole offers a fun-filled experience packed with surprises, challenges, and a whole lot of island charm. A large replica of the SS Montgomery is the centrepiece of the exciting new course.
Cllr Monique Bonney, chair of the Economy and Property Committee, said ‘The tee off event was a massive success, it was amazing to see the children enjoying the course they helped design. This is going to be a great asset on the Island, helping boost tourism and giving our residents something fun to do with the family. The heritage theme helps remind us of Sheppey’s diverse and rich history, and the golf will help re-cement Beachfields as a leisure destination.’
Sheerness ward councillor Dolley Wooster (Lab) says that not only has the course brought in the visitors, it has also stopped anti-social behaviour (ASB).

She said: “Historically, we had late-night drinking, drug selling and anti-social use of dogs. But beat officers have told me that they have seen this ASB decrease since the building of the golf course. It has also been a brilliant success because it has been extremely busy, which is great news. What we are now pushing for is for it to be booked out for community groups days – part-funded by Swale and Sheerness councils.’
