A care home in Whitstable celebrated Royal Ascot in style by hosting their very own ‘mane’ event and welcoming some special four-legged guests.
The garden at Care UK’s Harrier Lodge, on Thanet Way, was filled with team members and residents wearing their most glamorous hats and outfits for their very own Ladies Day. They celebrated the day in style, soaking up the sunshine as they enjoyed an afternoon of cream tea and Pimms.
To create the full race day experience, the home also invited along George and Spud, the therapy ponies. Residents were able to interact with their new four-legged friends and learn about some of their characteristics and how to care for them.
Susan Simmonds, Home Manager at Harrier Lodge, said: “We all had a great time having our own ‘day at the races,’ especially in the beautiful weather. Everyone dressed to impress, donning their most elaborate hats in keeping with the occasion.
“And of course, a day at the races wouldn’t be complete without the main attraction, so we were delighted to welcome George and Spud the therapy ponies into Harrier Lodge. Events like this are a great way to improve social interaction, promote wellbeing and offer fulfilling experiences, especially for those living with dementia.”
