Car Left Unattended To Warm Up Is Stolen

Kent police are warning motorists not to leave their car unattended as it defrosts after a number of thefts.

In the latest incident, a Toyota was taken in Gravesend after being left with the engine running for only 5 minutes. The thief was able to see enough through the icy windscreen to make a prompt getaway, although the police were able to locate the car and gave chase.

The driver decided not to stop but the freezing conditions got the better of them and they eventually crashed it onto a pavement. Thankfully no-one was hurt in the collision with some parked cars.

The driver has been arrested for dangerous driving, drug driving, failing to stop and theft of motor vehicle and remains in custody.

It has since been commented that the insurance company is unlikely to pay out to the owner of the Toyota on a theft claim, given that the vehicle was left unattended with the keys in the ignition.
