A speeding motorist who was stopped by Police officers in Tunbridge Wells has been jailed after searches of the car revealed he was a heroin dealer.
Sebastian Haggart was followed by patrols on 10th May 2023, after he carelessly exceeded the 30mph speed limit in Pennington Road, Southborough.
His VW Tiago was brought to a stop in London Road and when questioned the 41-year-old admitted there were drugs in a bag on a passenger seat.
A search led to the seizure of 24 heroin deals and a mobile phone, and Haggart was arrested.
His home address in Fernhurst Crescent, Tunbridge Wells was also searched, and a 14-gram block of heroin was seized along with digital scales.
Officers recovered a second mobile phone Haggart had discarded near his vehicle and this was found to contain messages relating to drug dealing. The seized heroin was later estimated to have a street value of £1,880.
Haggart, was charged with possessing heroin with intent to supply, driving without a licence and driving without insurance.
We will be seeking to confiscate the seized cash using legislation under the Proceeds of Crime Act
He pleaded guilty and on Friday 9th June was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court to two years and three months’ imprisonment. On his release he will be also disqualified from driving for 20 months.
PC Robert Harrison, of the Tunbridge Wells Neighbourhood Task Force said ‘When questioned at the roadside Haggart’s demeanour immediately appeared suspicious; he appeared nervous and adjusted a sports bag on the front passenger seat. He is a repeat offender and was wearing a GPS tag when arrested and today’s sentence has ensured a swift return to prison’.
