The fish statue on Erith Roundabout has been badly damaged after a white van crashed into it.
The accident happened on Monday 2nd December 2024 during the rush hour. One side of the base of the fish statue at the roundabout has been badly damaged, with debris laying all over the ground.
Councillor Nicola Taylor, for the Erith ward, said ‘Thank you to everyone who contacted me about the fish roundabout, we have been told that Technicians are on site and the statues artist Gary Drostle is on his way to assess the damage. As soon as I know more I’ll let you know.’
The statue has installed in 2006 and the fish links to the historic coat of arms of the town, derived from the De Luci family who were granted to lands after the Norman conquest. The colourful fish also represent the cleaning of the River Thames and the towns re-focussing as a riverside town.
