Umbreen David, Managing Director of Hoama Group and owner of Iden Manor Nursing Home in Staplehurst, attended the Royal Garden Party as recognition of her long-standing work in social care, her commitment to improving care for older people and individuals living with dementia, and her role in strengthening specialist care provision in Kent.
Umbreen, who is also the owner and developer of the new Meadow View specialist care home in Kent, said the occasion was deeply moving and gave her time to reflect on the people, residents, families and care teams who have shaped her journey.
“It was an extraordinary day and one I will always remember. To walk through the gates of Buckingham Palace and attend a Royal Garden Party felt very surreal, but also incredibly special. Said Umbreen.
“For me, this was never just a personal moment. It was a moment to reflect on the privilege of working in social care, the people cared for, the teams I have worked alongside, and the communities that have been part of that journey.”
Umbreen has dedicated her professional life to improving the lives of older adults, people living with dementia, and those with complex nursing and sensory needs. Her values-led philosophy, “I lift as I climb,” has shaped her approach to leadership, staff development and care culture.
At Iden Manor Nursing Home, she has championed a model of care built around dignity, empathy, emotional wellbeing and meaningful community connection. Her wider work continues through Meadow View, a new specialist care home development designed to increase high-quality provision in the region.
Umbreen added: “Social care is often spoken about in terms of pressure, challenge and crisis, and of course those realities exist. But days like this are a reminder that the work matters deeply. Care is about people, relationships, service and dignity.
“I felt very proud to represent my team, residents, family and the wider care sector. There are extraordinary people working in social care every day, and this recognition belongs to them too.”
Umbreen is an active member of the Kent Integrated Care Alliance, working with local providers, NHS partners and policymakers to support stronger integrated care pathways and constructive collaboration across the sector.
Her achievements have also been recognised through the Stelios Award for Disabled Entrepreneurs and a Stevie Award for Women in Business, acknowledging her leadership, innovation and contribution to UK social care.
The Royal Garden Party was a special milestone in a career defined not only by business leadership, but by resilience, service and a determination to improve the lives of others.
Umbreen said: “It was a day filled with gratitude. I came away feeling humbled, encouraged and even more committed to continuing the work. Social care deserves to be seen, valued and celebrated, and I hope moments like this help shine a light on the very best of our sector.”
