A man has been charged in connection with a series of theft and burglary offences as part of the latest enforcement action aimed at protecting businesses in Maidstone.
Police Officers have been investigating allegations that over a three-day period several town centre premises were targeted, including shops and a beautician.
It is reported that on Sunday 18th June 2023, a purse containing cash was stolen from a staff area of a shop in Week Street.
On the following day, another purse was stolen from an office of a business in London Road.
Police were also called to a robbery at a shop in Broadway, which happened on Monday 19th June. A man was said to have made threats he was carrying a knife before stealing cigarette lighters.
Diavren Pope, 42, of Tonbridge Road, Maidstone was arrested on Wednesday 21st June and later charged with robbery, two counts of burglary, and with two counts of fraud by false representation – relating to the fraudulent use of bank cards in Paddock Wood, on 16th June.
He was further charged with possessing cannabis, causing criminal damage to a police cell and with a racially aggravated public order offence.
Pope was remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 22nd June.
