The Met Office has issued an yellow ice warning for Kent, which covers Sunday, December 18 from 3am to 11am.
as temperatures plummet. The weather forecaster has warned people to be extra careful as temperatues plummet.
People travelling on Sunday should be aware there is a chance that road, air and rail services could be disrupted or delayed. The Met Office is also warning that people be extra careful as there’s an increased chance of injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
A statement said “A period of rain and snow mixed falling on frozen surfaces will lead to icy conditions causing some travel disruption.” People are being warned there will likely be some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.”
The icy conditions will be caused by widespread frozen surfaces ahead of a band of rain, sleet and snow. This weather system will be pushing northeast across the UK though Sunday, and lead to a risk of icy conditions through the morning.
The weather is then likely to be turning much milder from the west. Any sleet or snow in the south or southeast is only predicted to last an hour or two. This is then predicted to turn readily to rain but this will still onto frozen surfaces for a time.
it’s becoming much milder on Sunday, with sleet or snow turning to rain
If there is snow, it’s unlikely to settle, with no more than 1-2cm, and mostly over higher ground. The Met Office says this will melt rapidly, which may briefly add to the ice risk. In addition to the ice and snow risk, strong winds are expected, mainly over higher ground.
For the rest of the week, temperatures are to remaining very cold with low cloud and freezing fog patches slowly thinning and clearing through the morning to sunny spells, but reforming again during the evening. Maximum temperature 3 °C.
It appears that no-one from the Met Office has visited North Kent this week, where ice has been causing all sorts of problems. With temperatures remaining below zero degrees all week, any fallen snow has been compacted into ice, which is still on pavements and country roads.
IF you haven’t been careful up to this point, then you are probably already in hospital and won’t be going anywhere on Sunday!
