According to reports a further 541 people arrived on Kents beaches yesterday.
It is thought that UK Border Force and RNLI assisted nine boat loads of people make it safely to shore. It now brings the total number of illegal entries to over 33,000 for 2022. It is feared that up to 60,000 could be here by the end of the year.
It has also been said that the number of immigrants in hotels is now costing the UK taxpayer over £5million per day. Quick maths says that is £1.8billion per year.
Thankfully, new UK Home Secretary Suella Braveman has promised to get tough with the migrants. Let’s hope she is actually tougher than her predecessor Dingbat Patel.
First, she has promised to make the Rwanda plan work, which would be a step that no-one else has managed to achieve so far. She thinks the first flight could happen by Christmas, which would be a time for celebration for all of us.
“We have to stop the boats crossing the Channel. This has gone on for far too long,” Braverman said at the Conservative Party conference in Birmingham.
She also wants to create a blanket ban on anyone who enters Britain illegally, including on small boats across the English Channel, from being able to claim refuge. Only those who arrive via proper means would be able to make asylum claims.
The charity Care4Calais called the government’s proposals “barbaric, untruthful and unnecessary” and said most asylum seekers who come to Britain are genuine refugees.
This “is blatant victim blaming of incredibly vulnerable people, simply for the purpose of grabbing headlines,” said Clare Mosley, the founder of the charity.
It has been suggested that Clare Mosley should depart our shores and join the immigrants in Calais such is her enthusiasm for them.
This will not be easy, I cannot promise you a solution immediately
Suella Braveman is also looking to change the law relating to modern slavery claims. She says that the majority of people coming here are from Albania – some 80 per cent – who are coming across on small boats are claiming to be victims of modern slavery. That’s regardless of the fact that they may have paid tens of thousands of pounds for the privilege of being a so-called modern slave. It is utter nonsense for them to then be able to use this claim.
She also confirmed that there are instances where convicted paedophiles, drug dealers, murderers who are foreign nationals, served their sentences in English jails – then at the end of their sentence, claim ‘modern slavery’. Although the UK wants to deport them because they are considered to be foreign national offenders, we are then unable to.
Her final words were “There are many forces working against us, the Labour Party will try to stop us. The Lib Dems will go bananas. The Guardian will have a meltdown,” she added, sparking laughter from the audience.
Jeremy Corbyn has since piped up on social media stating “This would be a flagrant violation of the 1951 UN Refugee Convention and the European Convention on Human Rights. Where is the government’s empathy for those fleeing war, persecution and destitution? A contemptible and illegal dereliction of duty”.
Glad to see that Jeremy is happy to keep spending £5million per day on foreign nationals, whilst the British people continue to struggle with paying bills, putting food on the table and increased crime.
