Noisy Peacock In Gravesend Rescued By Dartford Animal Rescue

A noisy peacock that has been on the loose in Gravesend for more than six months has been rescued. The animal has been walking the streets, hopping onto houses and fences and squawking in the early hours has finally been captured

Volunteers from Dartford Animal Rescue were called to Rochester Road in Gravesend on 9th April after reports of the bird making “loud noises”, which were disturbing thr quiet neighbourhood.

Ciara O’Hare, who runs the rescue, attended with sister and volunteer Rosie O’Hare and animal rescuer Melissa Doris. Although the rescue organisation, which has been operating for around three years, has not caught a peacock before, they are used to catching other birds like chickens and geese, so instigated the same techniques.

It was completely stress-free for the peacock

They began by playing peahen noises to try and coax him down to somewhere they could try to catch him, They managed to get him to follow the noises down into a parking area behind some flats. It was there where Rosie managed to get a hold of the peacock and covered his eyes. They managed to get him into a wrap, and popped him into an IKEA bag and brought him back to the rescue centre.

The peacock, who has been named ‘Saataj’, was later taken to The Retreat Animal Rescue Farm Sanctuary in High Halden, Ashford, where he has been introduced to the other peacocks and peahens.
