Northfleet School Lights Up Wombwell Hall Care Home With ABBA Mania

Pupils from Northfleet School for Girls decided to bring a touch of fun to the care home by organising a performance of ABBA’s greatest hit ‘Dancing Queen’.

As part of a unique work experience collaboration between the school and the care home, the performance was a surprise treat for the residents and was met with great enthusiasm.

Claire Skinner, Manager at Wombwell Hall Care Home, expressed her delight at the impromptu concert “We are delighted to be working with Northfleet School for Girls to provide their students with valuable work experience in the care home setting. It’s important to us to engage with the younger generation and show them the rewarding nature of working in social care. “This is especially important as the demand for social care workers is expected to increase in the coming years, with an ageing population and an increased need for care services.

The performance was part of an ongoing initiative that has already seen 17 students from Northfleet School for Girls complete their work experience at Wombwell Hall. The partnership includes students from a range of disciplines, including health and social care, beauty, and performing arts, and pairs each student with a care team member for one-to-one mentoring.

The school pupils are buddied up with a member of the care team and receive one-to-one mentoring on the job, allowing them to gain valuable skills and experience in the care home setting. The partnership has been well received by residents, with one saying: “It was the best day seeing loads of youngsters about the home.” The working relationship is part of Wombwell Hall Care Home’s commitment to engage with the younger generation and raise awareness of social care as a career.

The collaboration between Northfleet School for Girls and Wombwell Hall Care Home sets a valuable precedent for partnerships between educational institutions and social care facilities. It offers young people a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience, build their skills, and explore the fulfilling work of social care.

Overall, the partnership between Northfleet School for Girls and Wombwell Hall Care Home is a fantastic example of collaboration between education and social care. It provides young people with an opportunity to gain valuable work experience, develop their skills, and learn about the rewarding nature of working in social care.
