Kent housebuilders Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes recently volunteered at Brunswick House Primary School in Maidstone to carry out a range of refurbishments.
Throughout a week of volunteering, 95 colleagues across Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes, together with 24 suppliers and subcontractors, lent their time, resources and labour to support numerous upgrades at the school. The works carried out are designed to promote education, recreation and wellbeing for both the students and the staff at Brunswick House.
The team began with stripping out and redesigning the school’s existing Medical Room to ensure the best experience for pupils. Following this, a new fence and gate were installed outside the school to enhance safety during drop-off and pickup times.
One of the most significant outside upgrades at Brunswick House centred on the mud school on the edge of the playground. The volunteers fashioned outdoor learning equipment out of wood and painted the existing equipment to liven up the area. They also decorated seven wooden playhouses equipped with toys which stand proudly on the top field.
Not just limited to the pupils’ facilities, the refurbishment project also included the staff room. A new kitchen with breakfast bar and appliances was installed to create a relaxing and social space for the staff members to unwind in.

The improvements have made a significant difference to the school and have been warmly welcomed by the staff and pupils.”
