The Old Rectory Care Home Rallies Support For Ambulance For Ukraine

The Old Rectory Care Home in Dymchurch has stepped forward in solidarity with Kent based charity Ambulance for Ukraine, donating vital equipment to help those affected by the ongoing conflict.

Founded by Paul Robinson at the outset of the war, Ambulance for Ukraine converts 4×4 vehicles into ambulances and fills them with essential medical and humanitarian aid. These vehicles are then delivered to Poland and transported to the frontline medical units in Ukraine.

Old Rectory Care Home’s contribution of wheelchairs, strollers, and walking aids will head to Zaporyzhzhia in southeastern Ukraine, where they are destined to support local hospitals — including a veterans’ hospital — and other frontline care units.

Cheryl Waters, Manager at The Old Rectory Care Home, explained why the team felt compelled to help: “When we heard about the incredible work Paul and Ambulance for Ukraine are doing, we knew we had to get involved. We had some unwanted mobility aids at the home that were in good condition, and we couldn’t think of a better cause. It’s heartwarming to know they’ll be used to support people in desperate need.”
Gina Allen from Ambulance for Ukraine expressed her gratitude, saying: “Thank you so much for the donations of wheelchairs and walkers. They are really appreciated and will make a huge difference.”

Paul Robinson, who is currently fundraising for the fifth and sixth vehicles to be delivered in October and November, highlighted the urgency of the mission: “These converted ambulances and medical supplies provide a lifeline to those who need it most — they bring essential medical care right to the front lines.”

Anyone wishing to help can donate medical or humanitarian aid, which can be dropped off at 33 Mill Road, Lydd. Every contribution counts towards saving lives.
