Housebuilder Launches Next Phase Of ‘Living Purposefully’ Campaign

Barratt Homes has recently launched the next phase of its ‘Living Purposefully’ campaign at its Martello Lakes development in Hythe. Through the distribution of public transport information packs, the campaign aims to educate residents to implement sustainable practices all in a bid for healthier communities.

According to the most recent National Travel Survey, travelling by car is by far the most dominant mode of transport in the UK, with around 83% of people reported to have used a private car at least once a week . To raise awareness of public transport options available in Hythe, Barratt Kent partnered with Kent County Council’s Active Travel team to offer tips to residents to implement a more sustainable travel plan and healthier lifestyle.
The pack included a range of useful information on all sustainable travel options in the immediate area including bus routes, hiking trails, nearby National Cycling Networks (NCN), train stations, beauty spots such as canals & viewpoints and guidance on using the council’s ‘journey mapper’ tool.

The travel pack forms part of the next phase of the housebuilder’s wider ‘Living Purposefully’ campaign, which aims to work with residents at its developments across Kent to build healthier and happier communities. Last year, the housebuilder launched its ‘Friends of The Woodlands’ grant scheme in Broad Oak, which saw residents apply to the housebuilder detailing how they would benefit from £250 worth of RSPB vouchers to use in their gardens.

Edward Kibosek, Active Travel Project Officer at Kent County Council commented: “It is great to see Barratt Homes supporting Active Travel for those living in Hythe. Its campaign is helping residents at Martello Lakes choose walking, wheeling or cycling for everyday journeys – boosting health, saving money and improving air quality. We thoroughly enjoyed working with the housebuilder on compiling the travel packages and we look forward to seeing more people out and about in Hythe.”

Natalie Perry, Sales and Marketing Director at Barratt Kent, commented: “It is of the upmost importance to us at Barratt Kent that we are building communities at our developments, and not just homes. Our Living Purposefully campaign encompasses all aspects of living a more sustainable life, whether that be using public transport, using less energy or making gardens more biodiverse. Martello Lakes was an obvious choice to launch our travel packs given its proximity to the sea and popular pleasure lake, and we thank Kent County Council for offering its expertise throughout the campaign.”
