A video has been posted on social media which shows two thieves looting whatever they want from a Sainsbury’s in Ashford.
The event is reported to have happened last week. The two hooded people are seen filling bags with alcohol and other items. Staff are seen recording the thefts but are powerless to stop them. It is policy not to apprehend the criminals themselves and they know that the police will not arrive in time to make any arrests.
It is a scary time for both staff and other customers as the looting continues unchallenged.
The bigger problem is that criminals know that they will not be challenged, so it encourages further events to take place. The law was changed in 2014 so that if goods worth less than £200 are stolen, the police should treat offenders leniently! So the Police hands are effectively tied.
