An Amazon van driver has died after his vehicle was hit by a train on a user-controlled Bax (Farm) level crossing at Lower Road in Teynham around 12.45pm on Sunday 13th July.
The London-bound train was travelling at around 90mph when it struck the van on the level crossing. The van caught fire following the collision. The air ambulance attended the scene along with Kent Police and Kent Fire & Rescue teams. Thankfully the train was not derailed.
Rail services were suspended due to the crash in Teynham, near Sittingbourne and Faversham.
A British Transport Police spokesman said “Sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is currently being investigated.”
An Amazon spokesman said “This is a terrible incident and our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the delivery driver’s family and loved ones during this difficult time. We will work with police and the delivery service provider as they investigate.”
