An elderly man has been killed after a driver hit him in Chatham last night. The incident occured at about 7pm and police and medics attempted to save him, but sadly he died at the scene.
Reports say that the driver of the vehicle sped up toward the pensioner, who was walking across the road with a walking stick in New Road, Chatham. He was crossing whilst the traffic lights were on red.
Kent police are now looking for the driver of the vehicle and searching all local CCTV, as part of their fatal collision investigation.
Eyewitnesses say that the man was “thrown in the air like a rag doll” before the driver then made off without stopping. Another witness claimed that “the driver knew what he had done and he callously drove away”. Sadly, the witnesses have not managed to share any details about the car.
