Surrounded by fellow care home residents and friends, the happy couple celebrated the special day in the comfort of Fairways Care Home, taking part in anniversary-themed trivia and sharing treasured memories from their six decades together. The celebration was filled with warmth and nostalgia, echoing the love that has carried them through the years.
Originally from Lydd, Joan and Allan have built a life full of adventure and deep connection. Joan 86 has long been a familiar face in the community through her work at the town’s newsagent, while Allan still drives his van across Europe as part of his business — proving that age is no barrier when it comes to keeping busy!
Their shared love of cycling sees them frequently pedalling around Kent, exploring churches and countryside routes together. Passionate travellers, they’ve also spent many years discovering the world, always side by side.
Their secret to a long and happy marriage? According to Joan: “It’s laughter, trust, and always making time for one another – no matter how busy life gets.”
