According to research conducted by the Woodland Trust, native woods and trees support a fifth of the UK’s Priority Species for conservation1, and the value of trees for flood protection is estimated to be £6.5 billion, and £6.1 billion for urban cooling2. In recognition of the importance of this research, David Wilson Homes, the housebuilder behind the Applegate Park development in Sittingbourne, has recently donated £720 to Milton Creek Country Park Trust’s for their Community Orchard tree planting project 2024.
Milton Creek Country Park is deeply rooted within Sittingbourne’s local community. Set amongst 128 acres, the park is a testament to Sittingbourne’s diverse social and environmental heritage, covering a range of habitats, from grassland, woodland, and wetland, as well as a range of sites of cultural importance, such as Saxon and Roman settlements and Victorian industrial sites. To build on David Wilson Kent’s pre-established investment of over £1 million in the Sittingbourne, the housebuilder is bolstering this amount this winter by firming their support for Milton Creek Country Park. The donation will support the Friends of Milton Creek and the further growth of Milton Creek Country Park’s young woodland habitat, David Wilson Kent wish to demonstrate their continued enthusiasm for community investment.
