Last Chance To Comment On South Aylesford Retail Park Junction

Today is the final day of consultation on the proposed new road junction on the A20 at South Aylesford Retail Park, near Maidstone.

KCC are proposing to change the existing traffic lights with a brand new roundabout.

The council say that the road improvement scheme will reduce congestion and provide capacity for growth, improve air quality and alleviate road flooding.

We are not quite sure about the flooding as the road near Homebase has been flooding for years – this should have been resolved as part of routine maintenance, not wait for an entirely new junction to be built.

It will also be interesting to see how the traffic flow is affected, or improved by the new roundabout. The priority bus lanes appear to have been removed, so buses will join the regular flow of traffic.

The public consultation closes at 23.59 on Thursday 18th March 2021 and can be found here.

Once the consultation is closed, the responses will be analysed and complied into a final consultation report. What will happen after the report is complete is anyone’s guess, but undoubtedly, the new junction is expected to go ahead.
