Following reports of ‘lamping’ taking place during the evenings in Hawkhurst, Kent Rural police were called to the scene.
They quickly tracked down the vehicle being used and detained four men. Stop searches revealed a catapult along with ball bearings and stones which were being used as weapons.
Lamping refers to a method of hunting nocturnal animals, such as foxes or rabbits at night using powerful lights or spotlights to dazzle them, making them easier to spot and shoot or catch with dogs. It is also called spotlighting, jacklighting, or shining.
One male has been charged for offences and the items were seized for destruction.
