Thieves Caught Selling Stolen Food In Maidstone Town Centre

Shoppers have been warned to avoid buying items from people selling on the street after two suspected shop thieves have been arrested in Maidstone following allegations they were seen selling stolen items in the town centre.

Quantities of meat and cheese were seized by patrols from a location near Bank Street, after an alert was initially raised by CCTV operators during the evening of Thursday 12th September 2024.

Officers attended a report of suspicious activity in the area and at around 5.30pm, a 43-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of theft and taken into custody. Carrier bags were recovered of suspected stolen goods, which also included chocolate.

They are believed to have been stolen from one or more Co-op stores and an investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information, or who may have been offered the items for sale, should call Kent Police on 01622 604100, quoting reference 46/155070/24.
