The two scheduled rounds of the 2020 British Touring Car Championship will swap course layouts after a meeting with officials yesterday.
The famous Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit will now host Rounds 4, 5 and 6 on 8-9th August, with the legendary layout getting a traditional summer date for the first time in the BTCC since 1996.
it is yet to be established if spectators will be allowed to attend race events
The 14-15th November finale will now take place on the Indy layout, in order for the timetable to have more flexibility within the shorter daylight hours on that date. As the season has been pushed back to accommodate race events, the last round at Brands Hatch will be affected by darkness setting in earlier, leading to less track time.
Also, during recent meeting with organiser TOCA and race teams, it has been agreed to delete the Goodyear option tyre for 2020 – the medium compound now to be used at all events, with the exception of Thruxton where the hard compound will be utilised. Given the regularity of back-to-back events, added workloads and the potential of reduced staffing in the now condensed campaign, it was agreed that such a decision would further aid teams during these challenging and busy times.
The 2020 BTCC season kicks off at Donnington Park on 1st-2nd August and will travel around the UK to race at 9 events with 27 BTCC rounds. Last year BTCC had 30 rounds, but due to the Coronavirus, they have managed to to squeeze in as many rounds as possible.
