Following the invasion of a house on Aycliffe Estate in Dover by an asylum seeker at the weekend, the council has issued letters to local residents.
Dover District Council have taken the unprecedented step of sending letters to all tenants warning them of the current risks. The letter also highlights how unnerving the incident has been and provides advice if tenants spot anyone suspicious in the area.
It is good to see a council taking this incident so seriously, especially after Kent Police stated that no offences had been committed. It has also been reported that the resident did not want to press charges.

The law in this particular area appears to be very weak, especially where the asylum seeker ‘only asked to use the phone’ and did not directly threaten the resident. But a 16-year old male barging their way into an older womans bedroom without permission surely cannot be allowed!
The Home Office released some important statistics yesterday in regards to asylum claims. they stated that “85% of people who arrived by boat last year who have had their claims processed have been granted refugee status or some other form of protection – but 96% of those who arrived are still awaiting a decision“.
So only 4% of the thousands that arrived have currently been dealt with. What is the Home Office actually doing, or are the numbers applying for asylum actually much bigger than we are being told?
The Home Office also said “12,000 Albanians have arrived by boat this year, compared with 800 last year. The Clandestine Channel Threat Commander says Albanian criminal gangs have gained a foothold in northern France“.
How come 85% are being grated refugee status when we are told that the majority of those arriving are young men from Albania, which is not a warzone. Someone is not being truthful with us!
For comparison, in France 82% of asylum claims are rejected in the first instance. This is probably a good reason why there are so many people in Calais just desperate to get to the ‘soft’ UK!
