It is not a good start to the week for many motorists as snow is causing travel chaos across the county.
A frozen layer of ice underneath a fresh layer of snow is making some roads impassible and many have had accidents. The notorious hills such as Blue Bell and Detling are already blocked with stationary traffic and there has been a 6 car crash on the London bound A229. The Sheppey Bridge was forced to close yesterday and large vehicles are struggling today.
There is chaos on Keycol Hill near Key Street roundabout in Sittingbourne. Two rail replacement buses have got stuck going toward Sittingbourne and a couple of very large HGVs stuck going toward Newington. The traffic queues goes back to Key Street roundabout.
Although a vast amount of salt has been laid on major roads, there has not been the usual amount of traffic as usual to grind it into the road to melt the snow and ice.
Minor routes have not been gritted and many motorists have found themselves stuck on a small incline. The snow is continuing to fall and is expected to continue for the rest of Monday.
South Eastern Railways are already advising people not to travel today as they expect services to be disrupted.
Temperatures are expected to rise from midday tomorrow, so if you can stay at home today, it may be the best idea until conditions improve.
