Kent is to be affected by strike action over the next two days as various organisations down tool to protest.
Many schools in Kent will be affected as teachers stage another two day strike. Secondary schools will be open for year 11 pupils but all other years will be on a shortened home schooling schedule. It is another damaging time for children with lessons disrupted, as they are just getting over time lost after so many COVID closures.
The University of Kent has also be affected by a 3-day strike, as the UCU Union pulls out lecturers from 150 Universities across the country. They have future strike dates planned unless university employers make substantially improved offers in disputes over pay, working conditions and pension cuts.
It is said that universities are continually trying to reduce the current and future living conditions of their staff, due to budget limitations.
Finally, journalists at BBC South East studios in Tunbridge Wells will walk out on today on a 24-hour strike in a dispute over cuts to local radio. Members of the National Union of Journalists at the BBC will picket in front of the studios on Mount Pleasant from 11am.
The controversial proposals would see the axing of local radio programmes on BBC Radio Kent, to be replaced by national and merged programmes. We are betting that this will get a lot more coverage than the other strikes!
