Kent Police are warning of an increase in car number plate thefts taking place across the county.
There has been a spate of thefts reported, with Ashford being the current hotspot for such crimes.
Police officers are recommending that car owners use tamper resistant screws on their number plates to deter would be criminals.
Tamper resistant screws have an unconventional drive style, which require a special tool to remove. The majority of plate thieves only come with a standard philips or slotted screwdriver, meaning that they will not have the right tool if you are using an unconventional screw.
many who have been caught in the congestion charge zone without having paid are now falsely claiming that their plates have been stolen
If your number plate is stolen, the first thing you should do is to report it to the authorities. As soon as you are aware that the crime has taken place, you should contact the police and the DVLA.
