Labours Angela Rayner has approved plans for a development in Tunbridge Wells, that was blocked by Michael Gove in 2023.
The Berkeley development of 165-homes was previously blocked by the then Conservative Government because he didn’t like the look of the houses and did not think they were fitting for the area.
Michael Gove said Berkeley’s plans for the homes were of a “generic suburban nature” and did not “reflect the expectations” of the local design code in 2023.
At the time, the rejection on aesthetic grounds of the scheme provoked industry backlash on Conservative planning policy.
But the decision has now been overturned by Labour who have given the green light for the development to go ahead.
This in turn has raised further upset from locals who are against Labours plans and the ‘poorly designed’ houses.
