Sittingbourne Affected By Heavy Snow

The area around Sittingbourne has been hit wityh heavy snowfall overnight making road conditions perilous.

There have already been a number of road accidents over night and this morning as people with little ability of driving on snow and ice attempt their journeys.

Last night Kent Police were involved assisting a number of motorists whose cars had managed to find something hard to hit. The police were on hand to ensure the motorists were unharmed as well as picking up the small fragments of plastic trim from the road.

There has been a further delays on the M2 during rush hour, following a crash involving three vehicles between J6 for Faversham and and J5 for Sittingbourne. Thankfully nobody has been injured but the police were soon on hand to give their backs a good stretch by picking up bumpers and moving them to the hard shoulder.

Temperatures across Kent plunged to nearly -10 degrees centigrade last night, meaning that a lot of compacted snow has turned to black ice. Although temperatures are expected to rise today, ice is expected to remain on the surfaces, meaning there are plenty more accidents to come. Car Insurance companies are braced for a large influx of calls.

Anew yellow weather warning for the county has been released by the Met Office.The Met Office warn “Icy patches and snow showers will cause further travel disruption. Some roads and railways are likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services.There will probably be some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths”.

Icy patches…you don’t say?!!!
