Snowmageddon Brings Kent To A Standstill

Much of Kent is working from home today after a blanket of snow covered the county.

As per the forecast, snow began falling on Sunday evening around 5pm. The forecast was soon updated with snow falling until the early hours of Monday morning rather than 11pm.

People are being asked to stay at home and not travel unless it is essential. Many schools across the county have been closed, as both pupils and teachers are unable to make it to site.

There is disruption on Kent’s major highways, although it is not as bad as originally predicted because many people have chosen not to travel today. But there have already been a number of accidents with delays on the London-bound M2 between Junction 3 (Blue Bell Hill) and Junction 2 (Strood) after a crash. There are also delays on the M25 between Junctions 5 and 6 and another accident reported on the Thanet Way between Clapham Hill and Eddington Junction.

Most rail services have been postponed with some commencing at 7am, which include the Woolwich Line, Bexleyheath Line, Sidcup Line. Other lines have been shut for the day which include the Medway Line and Sheerness Line.

The big freeze is expected to last up until the end of the weekend, so the snow that has fallen is going to take a while to go away. Meanwhile, people are being warned about the dangers of ice, especially black ice or ice that is hidden under snow.
