As the world continues to spiral out of control, you can at least take some comfort in that no matter what else happens, you can still live your life by your own beliefs. Well not anymore you can’t.
It would seem that the woke brigade want to own our minds as well as our souls. Just last week a teacher in Ireland has been jailed after he breached a High Court order, which forbade him from attending the school. He was waiting for a disciplinary review by the school board, after he refused a transgender students request, who we will refer to as Tarquin, to use the gender-neutral pronoun ‘they’ rather than ‘he’.
The teacher is an evangelical Christian and Transgenderism is against his Christian belief. But his religious beliefs are not seen as important as Tarquin’s transgender pronoun, so off went the silly circus and the teacher was sent home to reflect on his behaviour.
Although his stay at Her Majesty’s pleasure is a result of refusing to comply with what the school says is the teacher’s “lawful suspension”, the teachers view is that he should not have been forced to use the gender-neutral pronoun which was against his beliefs, which then led to the suspension and the series of events that transpired afterwards.
It is similar to a legal case involving a bakery and a cake that the customer wanted a message emblazoned on it saying “support gay marriage”. The customer happened to be gay. The bakery could not have cared less about heir sexual orientation and therefore did not ask them when they entered the shop. Which would have been a strange question to ask a potential customer. Anyway, a seven-year legal battle ensued after the Christian owner refused to bake it.
Although the customer won the initial battle when the Northern Ireland Court of Appeal found that the bakery directly discriminated against the customer, common sense won out when the Supreme Court overturned previous rulings and said the bakery owner refused the cake based on the message itself, rather than the customers sexual orientation. But it almost cost the owner their business and goodness knows how much in legal fees.
We now live in a society where you are not allowed to say anything for fear of a backlash. Comedians have now become nothing more than commentators, because if they say anything controversial then they will have their UK Tour shut down by a baying mob before being banned from every theatre in the country, who will not want to be associated with someone so ‘out of touch’.
It’s the same with our legal system. A person can be accused of a crime at any time, but the basic rule of ‘innocent until proven guilty’ has been lobbed out of the window by some do-good nobody hiding behind a keyboard. As soon as the police indicate that someone is under investigation because they may have done something naughty, Twitter World goes into overdrive and the persons name is soon trending globally.
The person knows they are innocent and now has an expensive job to try and prove it, whilst everyone else instantly believes they are guilty. Companies and sponsors quickly drop the ‘unnamed’ celebrity immediately. The person then has to wait a least 12 months for a court appearance to prove their innocence, because every barrister has gone on strike.
Their career then turns into a job of staying out of the spotlight until they either get their day in court, or someone says that they got it all wrong and they can return to their day job. But the day job has long gone and the sponsors have signed contracts with an 18 year old influencer from Insta. Just ask Cliff Richard for his opinion on such matters.
So a teacher in Ireland sits in a cold jail cell and has told the court that for “every hour of every day for the next 100 years” he will not compromise his beliefs. And even if he does get let out and is cleared, it is very unlikely that he will be able to return to a satisfying job in education for many, many years!
