Dispersal Orders Issued For Thanet Resorts Over Weekend

Twenty seven people have been dispersed by police working to disrupt antisocial behaviour in Thanet over the bank holiday weekend.

The Section 34 dispersal orders brought in on Friday 22nd May 2026 cover Broadstairs, Margate and Ramsgate to discourage anti-social behaviour. The orders were in place until 3pm on Sunday 24th May for Broadstairs and Margate, and 9pm for Ramsgate, although strangely the police decided not to run it through Bank holiday Monday.

They are part of a continued response to crack down on underage street drinking and antisocial behaviour. High visibility patrols have also been increased in the areas to identify and tackle any nuisance behaviour.

Alongside the dispersals on Friday night, there were also 2 arrests and 2 stop and searches:

  • – A 16 year old boy was arrested on Broadstairs Promenade on suspicion of failing to comply with a dispersal notice. He has been bailed pending further enquiries.
  • – A 17 year old boy was arrested in Broadstairs High Street on suspicion of assault on emergency worker and possession of Class B Drugs. He remains in custody.
  • – Four teenagers were returned to the care of their parents
  • – Two stop and searches were conducted with a small amount of Class B drugs seized. A community resolution order was issued.

Chief Inspector Vanessa Foster said ‘We are committed to tackling antisocial behaviour and, through the dispersal orders, officers are able to act swiftly to prevent disruption. The majority of people who visit Thanet are able to do so responsibly and respectfully. However, there are some who make a nuisance of themselves and this behaviour will not be tolerated.’
