To celebrate National Careers Week 2025 (3rd-8th March), housebuilder Barratt David Wilson Homes partnered with children’s charity Magic Breakfast to host an Aspiration Day, offering local schools valuable career advice and an insight into what it’s like to work in the construction industry.
Magic Breakfast powers children’s learning in schools helping pupils to realise their potential by offering breakfast to over 300,000 children and young people across England and Scotland. Barratt David Wilson Kent and Magic Breakfast’s Aspiration Day was an opportunity to show the next generation just how far their work and aspiration can take them.
The session followed a speed networking format in which the housebuilder’s employees connected with students to help them understand which educational and career paths they could take in the industry. This comes as current stats from the Construction Industry Training Board highlight that over 250,000 extra construction workers are required by 2028 to meet the housing demand .
This activity comes as part of Barratt Foundation’s £500,000 investment into Magic Breakfast, which enables the charity to tackle morning hunger at local schools.
Natalie Perry, Director of Sales & Marketing at Barratt David Wilson Kent, comments: “Supporting young people’s careers is essential for building a strong and thriving society. When we invest in their future, we empower them with the confidence, skills and opportunities they need to succeed. Many construction companies will have faced recent challenges to recruit workers, so working with local schools to inspire and educate students about the industry is important to overcoming these struggles.
“The work that Magic Breakfast does is truly inspiring, especially when it comes to ensuring children start their school day with a nutritious breakfast, which is essential to the energy and focus they need to engage in their education fully. As a team we are proud to be investing in the future of our next generation as it will help with creating a brighter and more inclusive tomorrow for all.”
Lindsey MacDonald, Chief Executive at Magic Breakfast, adds: “Breakfast is an essential part of every school day which helps young people to engage and learn at school. This year, with the government’s early adopters scheme set to begin in 750 English primary schools, more children will be supported each school morning. Magic Breakfast wants to see a society where no pupil starts the day too hungry to learn, across all schools in the UK. Children and young people need to be backed with opportunities and investment. Discovering more about the world of work, including the roles and opportunities that are available can be a powerful motivation and help inspire young people’s career choices.
“Magic Breakfast works to better support children to realise their own potential, and we value our partners donating their time and expertise to power children and young people’s futures, both within the Aspiration Days this year, and with breakfast every school morning.”
